Sources at the Spanish company Ferrovial announced that its subsidiary Webber won a $220 million contract to build a highway in Texas.
This contract, which involves building section 4 of highway SH-121, is the largest ever awarded to Webber. Construction will begin in November and end in January 2011.
Highway SH-121 is divided into five sections, which are under different stages of development. Sections 1 and 2 are already open to traffic, while section 3 will be completed in January, 2010. Webber will build section 4, which will link up with highway US-75.
Ferrovial´s highway and parking subsidiary Cintra, was the provisional winner of this highway two years. However, the Texas Transportation Commission later decided that the North Texas Tollway Authority would get the job.
With this contract, Ferrovial will strengthen its presence in the United States, where it already operates the Chicago Skyway and Indiana Toll Road. The company also won a contract to build and manage another highway in Texas, the SH 130.
