Hispanic Society Gala Held in New York


Last week, the Hispanic Society of America celebrated its annual gala in New York, a major social event for aficionados of Latin American culture that unites and honors Spanish and American celebrities from the arts, literature, finance and politics.

On this occasion, the Hispanic Society awarded its famous Sorolla medal to New York University professor Jonathan Brown for his research and work in Spanish art and culture; and to Spaniard Jose Luis Olivas, president of Bancaja.

Among the gala attendees were Spain’s ambassador to the UN, Jose Antonio Yanez Barnuevo; consul general in New York, Angel Egea; Mencia Figueroa, of the Hispanic Society; and several Spanish businessmen including, Ignacio Sanchez Galan, CEO of Iberdrola, and representatives from Telefonica, BBVA and Santander. Personalities from the world of fashion, art, entertainment and finance were also present.
