American multinational Sunpower is studying the possibility of building a photovoltaic module production plant in Spain. Luis Torres, Sunpower´s director of development for Spain and Southern Europe explained that Spain is one of the one of the countries under consideration for the facility planned for Europe.
Among the benefits of constructing the plant in Spain are the country’s favorable regulations and the good results that Sunpower is experiencing in the Spanish market - 60% of company turnover over the last two quarters and an expected € 1 billion in revenue by the close the year.
According to Torres, "the industrial opportunity we have now for Spanish technology in solar energy is unique." He emphasized the fact that “sound regulations allow for billions to be invested in Spain, in addition to the savings in gas imports." These are factors that have made Spain a candidate for this project.
Torres explained that Sunpower is “a long-term player in Spain" and that "the European market is strategic and key" to the company. Therefore, it is important to have a production facility in Europe and, he stressed, Spain’s good regulations could benefit the company.
