The provision of airport infrastructure and equipment in Spain. Airport concessions
|

|
An essential part of the supply of air transportation services is airports, the main purpose of which is to satisfy the needs of passengers and goods in transit between air and land forms of transportation. From this initial objective, airports have become true managerial, logistical, and business centers that bring together a varied combination of activities. Their influence transcends the strict boundaries of airport grounds, impacting local and regional economies, especially in the case of hub airports which act as traffic collection and distribution platforms from which there are multiple possible connections to the rest of the world. In recent years, Spain has modernized and increased the capacity of its airport installations to deal with future demand. Madrid and Barcelona stand out because of the size of the developments carried out and because of their business commitment. The importance of air transportation to Spain is also reflected in the Strategic Plan for Infrastructure and Transportation 2005-2020. This report analyses the current Spanish concessions framework for airport infrastructure and equipment and its offers.
