The Spanish railway experience. A new management model based on the high-performance network

The transformation underway in Spain to totally modernize its rail system has no equal in the recent history of public works investment. This is a structural reform that has been supported by every sector of society—the government, parliament and the people—who have bet that high speed as a dynamic strategy will pay off for the railways. Current developments are due to the need to resolve certain problems (mainly, lack of interoperability and failure to adapt to user needs), but also due in great measure to confidence in the consistency and response capability of the Spanish rail sector, which has also successfully expanded into international business. This report analyses the Spanish high-speed railway experience, the current offers and the Spanish companies involved.
