Urban rail transport in Spain
Urban rail transport is the future solution to the increasing demand for citizen mobility and will at the same time generate more demand for rail transport. In mid-size and large cities in Spain, urban transit systems have been rationally planned to integrate and coordinate the different modes of transportation by creating transportation consortiums and independent, metropolitan or municipal transportation groups. These moves have generated greater demand for public transit, especially commuter, suburban and light rail systems in contrast to bus transportation systems. This report analyses the Spanish urban rail transport experience, the current offers and the Spanish companies involved.
