Acquisition of 9 Squared by Spanish company LaNetro ZED Creates a new Mobile-Entertainment Leader in the US

The group just launched a visionary set of services that aims at bringing the web 2.0. logic to the cell phone screen.

The launching of the new platform, beta.zed.com coincides for the company with the announcement of the purchase of the British company Monster Mob (owner of 9 Squared, the American leader of mobile media content).

“LaNetro ZED will provide the American consumer access to a large catalog of services through cell phone and PC. The new services integrate user-generated content, communitybuilding tools – blogs, dating, matching – as well as communication tools like e-mail, messenger and chat”, explains Alejandro Diego, US country manager of LaNetro Zed.

Diego highlights that with this product La Netro Zed serves the growing/emerging market trend of Internet access from cell phone terminals.

Community building features are the major innovations of the LaNetro Zed’s new product. In Spain this company pioneered a business model based in the power of groups. With their wider range of services, users are able to upload files and tag them, maintain personal profiles where they can swap photos or videos, and share hobbies through webcams or blogs.

The United States is the first country where the new product has been introduced. “We decided that this country should be the testing ground of this product because the US is at the forefront of communitybuilding and user-generated content, so its adaptation to the cell phone is easy”, says Alejandro Diego. In the next few months it will be launched in Spain and other countries where Lanetro Zed and Moster Mob have a presence.
